Impact Stories

For almost 30 years, DC SCORES poet-athletes have been making an impact on their communities through their service-learning projects.

Through DC SCORES' award-winning model, students write poems in the fall season that explore issues they care about in their neighborhoods. In the spring season, teams complete a service-learning project to address those issues, all while continuing to hone their teamwork skills on the soccer field.

DC SCORES poet-athletes have undertaken letter-writing campaigns to end food insecurity in their neighborhoods, created intergenerational friendships through partnerships with local care homes, and cared for DC's natural resources through park and river clean-ups.
